The Revolutionary War sword of Commodore John Barry, considered a “Father of the U.S. Navy,” will return to Philadelphia for the first time since 1939 and will be on view at the Museum of the American Revolution beginning Sept. 13, 2023, which is celebrated as Commodore Barry Day.

The Museum will receive an Institutional Award of Merit from PA Museums at the association’s Annual Statewide Museum Conference for Revolution Place.

A restored mid-19th-century copy of a painting depicting George Washington and French general Rochambeau during the last major battle of America’s Revolutionary War has been installed at the Museum of the American Revolution. On Friday, April 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., cadets from the United States Military Academy will join the Museum of the American Revolution for a discussion on using digital technologies to energize public history.

In the fall of 1777, Philadelphia was seized by the British and occupied for nine long months. The Museum of the American Revolution will recreate this little-known time in our city’s history as part of its annual living history event Occupied Philadelphia on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

This holiday season, the Museum of the American Revolution is reviving a traditional 18th century form of celebration: colorful window illuminations inspired by famed Philadelphia artist Charles Willson Peale. The window illuminations, “Illuminating Liberty,” are now on display nightly through the New Year. Each weekend in December from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., kids can create their own illumination-inspired ornament to take home.

On Tuesday, July 17, from 5 – 8 p.m., the Museum will host “Trash Talk,” an archaeology-themed evening event that will explore the findings from the archaeological excavation of the Museum’s site prior to the building’s construction.
