Join the Museum of the American Revolution over Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, Aug. 31 – Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, for family-friendly activities, hands-on crafts, live performances, a chance to explore our special exhibit Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent, and more as another Revolutionary Summer comes to a close. Throughout the holiday weekend, children 12 and under will receive free admission when tickets are purchased at the front desk.

The Museum of the American Revolution’s monthly History After Hours series will return on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, with extended evening hours from 5 – 8 p.m., special themed programs, happy hour food and drink specials, games and trivia, and full access to the Museum’s exhibits. Tickets for History After Hours events are $10 for adults and can be purchased online in advance here or at the door.

Presidents Day was originally established in 1879 to commemorate the birthday of George Washington, our nation’s first president, and later expanded to include all who have held our nation’s highest office. This year, the Museum of the American Revolution will celebrate Presidents Day weekend, Saturday, Feb. 17 – Monday, Feb. 19, with family-friendly festivities and the final chance to see the Museum’s limited-run special exhibit Among His Troops: Washington’s War Tent in a Newly Discovered Watercolor.

In 2013, the Museum of the American Revolution commissioned Colonial Williamsburg’s Department of Historic Trades to create an exact replica of one of the greatest treasures in its collection—George Washington’s sleeping and office tent. This replica, which has been used by conservators and exhibit designers as a “stunt double” for the original tent as they plan for the installation of the fragile original artifact in the Museum—will be on display May 2-3 at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

On Jan. 13, the Museum of the American Revolution will unveil a newly discovered watercolor painting from the Revolutionary War as the centerpiece of a limited-run exhibit from Jan. 13 – Feb. 19, 2018. The 235-year-old, seven-foot panoramic painting depicts the Continental Army’s 1782 encampment at Verplanck’s Point in New York’s Hudson Valley. It includes the only known depiction of General George Washington’s headquarters tent in the field – the very tent that is dramatically presented at the Museum.

A panel of five Philadelphia-based Black business leaders will join the Museum of the American Revolution on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. for “AmRev Presents: A Black Founders Legacy of Entrepreneurship,” a panel discussion on the history of Black entrepreneurship in Philadelphia. Panelists will explore the experiences of contemporary Black business owners and draw connections to those of James Forten, a successful Black sailmaker and entrepreneur whose life and legacy is chronicled in the Museum’s special exhibit Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia.

The Museum of the American Revolution today announced that it has been recognized with a 2022 Institutional Achievement Award from PA Museums for its 2020-2021 special exhibition When Women Lost the Vote: A Revolutionary Story, 1776-1807, which explored the little-known story of women and free people of color legally voting in New Jersey following the Revolutionary War.
