Comedic Performances, Spanish Language Tours and Happy Hour Specials at Museum of the American Revolution

Did you know that comedy played an important role in the Revolution? Discover how Irish soldier Richard St. George used “comedy” sketching to cope with his life experiences during and after the Revolutionary War at History After Hours on Tuesday, November 19, 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Museum of the American Revolution. Tickets for History After Hours are $10 and can be purchased online in advance here or at the door.

Attendees will witness history and comedy come together through the Philly Improv Theater’s hit show, “Study Hall”. The Museum’s Director of Curatorial Affairs and Chief Historian, Dr. Philip Mead will give a lecture on an 18-century topic of his choice, then actors from the improv group will reenact the lecture on the fly. “Study Hall” performances will take place at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Each lecture and 30-minute performance will be different so you will want to see both!

At 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm, join a Museum Educator for a 30-minute tour of satirical prints created by Richard St. George in our special exhibition, Cost of Revolution: The Life and Death of an Irish Soldier.

In partnership with Casa de Venezuela, and as part of the Museum’s Citizenship Initiative, two special gallery tours will be translated in Spanish. The 45-minute tours start at 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. Guests can meet representatives from Casa de Venezuela and learn about the Museum’s free citizenship classes in between tours.

“Comic Relief” is part of the Museum’s monthly History After Hours series, which features extended evening hours, special themed programs, happy hour food and drink specials in Cross Keys Café from 5 – 7 p.m., and full access to the Museum’s exhibits. Our final History After Hours for the year, “Camped Out” will take place on December 10th.
