Tickets are now on sale for the 2019 International Conference on the American Revolution from October 3 – 5, 2019, presented at the Museum of the American Revolution with the Pritzker Military Museum & Library. The three-day event will bring noted historians, writers and curators from Ireland, Scotland, England and the United States together to explore military, political, social, and artistic themes from the Age of Revolutions.

The conference will coincide with the opening of Cost of Revolution: The Life and Death of an Irish Soldier, the Museum’s first international loan exhibition, which is on view from September 28, 2019 – February 17, 2020. With more than 100 works of art, historical objects, manuscripts, and maps from lenders across the globe, Cost of Revolution will explore the Age of Revolutions in America and Ireland through the life of an Irish-born artist and officer in the British Army, Richard St. George (1757-1798).

Conference program highlights include an opening keynote lecture by Princeton University historian Dr. Eliga Gould the celebrated author of “Making Peace in Britain, Ireland, and America: 1778 to 1783”. A closing keynote will be provided by Dr. Martin Mansergh, a collateral descendant of Richard St. George and a noted historian who is a former Irish Fianna Fáil politician and played a key role in the Northern Ireland peace process.

“Our mission at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library is to tell the story of the citizen soldier and to understand how an individual, whether soldier or citizen, can have an effect on the outcome of history,” said Dr. Rob Havers, President and CEO of the Pritzker Military Museum & Library. “It is a natural collaboration to partner with the Museum of the American Revolution on this conference to preserve the legacy of perhaps the defining moment of US history.”

“We are thrilled to join with Pritzker Military Museum & Library to bring powerful voices together for thought-provoking dialogue about the Age of Revolutions, an explosive period of change around the world,” said Dr. R. Scott Stephenson, President and CEO of the Museum of the American Revolution. “We look forward to welcoming international attendees to Philadelphia, the Headquarters of the Revolution.”

Other speakers include Dr. Stephen Conway, professor at the University College London; Dr. Lauren Duval, adjunct professorial lecturer in the Department of History at American University; Dr. Padhraig Higgins, professor at Mercer County College; Dr. Ruth Kenny, curator at the Irish Georgian Society in Dublin; Dr. Andrew Mackillop, senior lecturer in Scottish History at the University of Glasgow; Matthew Skic, associate curator for the Museum of the American Revolution; Dr. Aaron Sullivan, historian and author of The Disaffected: Britain’s Occupation of Philadelphia During the American Revolution; and Dr. Gregory J.W.
