In the fall of 1777, Philadelphia was seized by the British and occupied for nine long months. The Museum of the American Revolution will recreate this little-known time in our city’s history as part of its annual living history event, Occupied Philadelphia, on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Museum will offer guided neighborhood walking tours and family-friendly activities exploring what life was like while British forces controlled – or, for some people, attempted to liberate – Philadelphia.

From creating hand-drawn war maps and hand-carved colonial candlesticks to producing a live flame onstage as Eliza Hamilton burns her husband’s letters, Props Master Jay Duckworth is the man behind the magic of Broadway’s smash hit Hamilton: An American Musical.

Bring the whole family to the Museum of the American Revolution during Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, Sept. 2 – Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, for pop-up talks, discovery carts, theatrical performances, and other family-friendly activities. Throughout the holiday weekend, kids 12 years old and younger receive free Museum admission (available at the Museum’s front desk, not online.)

Political theorist and author Dr. Danielle Allen, James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, will join the Museum as the distinguished lecturer for the fourth annual Carl M. Buchholz Memorial Lecture on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022 from 6 – 7 p.m.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Museum of the American Revolution will host an event on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. to mark the official unveiling of a portrait of Stephen “Don Esteban” Minor, who fought with the Spanish Army during the Revolutionary War.

This Veterans Day Weekend, Friday, Nov. 10 – Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, the Museum of the American Revolution will pay tribute to America’s first veterans as well as those who continue to serve our nation today. Visitors of all ages can enjoy walking tours, performances, and other family-friendly activities. From Nov. 10-12, the Museum will offer free admission to veterans, those currently serving in the military, and Blue Star Families, courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal.
