From Saturday, June 30 – Wednesday, July 4, 2018, explore the Declaration's history and continuing legacy at the Museum of the American Revolution with special programs and activities for all ages. Throughout the weekend, visitors and passersby can declare how they are carrying forward the ideals of the American Revolution by adding a personalized ribbon to a flag-shaped “Declarations Wall” on the Museum’s outdoor plaza. Inside, visitors can sign their name to a giant Declaration of Independence in the Museum’s rotunda and take home a complimentary pocket-sized Declaration of Independence.

Author and historian Dr. Caitlin Fitz will discuss her award-winning first book, Our Sister Republics: The United States in an Age of American Revolutions, in a virtual conversation with Museum President and CEO Dr. R. Scott Stephenson.

Preeminent constitutional scholar and Yale University professor Akhil Reed Amar joins the Museum of the American Revolution as the distinguished lecturer for the fifth Carl M. Buchholz Memorial Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, from 6 – 7 p.m.

Only one month remains to see two 18th-century paintings depicting the last major land battle of the Revolutionary War on display at the Museum of the American Revolution. The paintings, “Le Siège de Yorktown” (The Siege of Yorktown) and “La Prise de Yorktown” (The Surrender of Yorktown), are incredibly detailed and populated with hundreds of tiny figures, like 18th-century “Where’s Waldo?” scenes. They will be on display until Sunday, September 24.

Next fall, the Museum of the American Revolution will present its first international loan exhibition, Cost of Revolution: The Life and Death of an Irish Soldier, anchored by two significant portraits. Painted by English artist Thomas Gainsborough and Irish artist Hugh Douglas Hamilton, the portraits are on loan to the Museum from Australia’s National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne) and the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin, respectively.

In his new book The Ghost Ship of Brooklyn: An Untold Story of the American Revolution (Da Capo Press, 2017), author and historian Dr. Robert Watson draws on hundreds of accounts culled from old newspapers, diaries, and military reports.

During Father’s Day weekend, visitors to the Museum of the American Revolution can explore “Revolution in Miniatures,” featuring displays of hundreds of intricately detailed, hand-painted miniature military figures and Revolutionary-era scenes by nearly 50 painters and sculptors.
