The Museum of the American Revolution is pleased to announce that its 2023 special exhibition, "Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia," has won both a 2024 Award of Excellence from the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) and a 2024 Special Achievement Award from PA Museums.

In the fall of 1777, Philadelphia was seized by the British and occupied for nine long months. The Museum of the American Revolution will recreate this little-known time in our city’s history as part of its annual living history event, Occupied Philadelphia, on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Museum will offer guided neighborhood walking tours and family-friendly activities exploring what life was like while British forces controlled – or, for some people, liberated – Philadelphia.

When Women Lost the Vote explored the little-known history of the nation’s first women voters and examined the political conflicts that led to their voting rights being stripped away.

The Museum marked its first full year in 2018 and it was a year of historic firsts! We welcomed more than 300,000 visitors from countries across the world.
