As we mourn the loss of our Chairman Emeritus, H.F. (Gerry) Lenfest, we take heart in remembering the tremendous legacy he leaves behind. His impact on the quality of life in Philadelphia and our country can be measured not only by his extraordinary generosity, but by his inspired leadership.

Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest

The Museum of the American Revolution, housed in the Marguerite and Gerry Lenfest Building, would not exist if it were not for Gerry. Long before others saw the incredible promise of establishing such a museum, Gerry offered both his financial support and his leadership.

He served as Chairman of the Board from 2005 to 2016 and was steadfast through every challenge and unwavering in his determination. In an act of humility, he stepped down as Chairman four months before the Museum opened to the public, on time and under budget, and continued his involvement as Chairman Emeritus.

The staff and Board of the Museum of the American Revolution offer the Lenfest family our deepest sympathies. With Gerry as our inspiration, we are determined to carry forward and fulfill his vision for this Museum—to preserve the history of the Revolution and inspire rising generations with its meaning and continuing relevance.
