What Can a Citizen Do by David Eggers

In our first Revolutionary Virtual Storytime, the Museum's own Dr. Elizabeth Grant, Director of Learning & Engagement, reads aloud What Can a Citizen Do?, written by Dave Eggers and illustrated by Shawn Harris, with permission from Chronicle Book. Our Virtual Storytime series has featured Now and Ben: The Modern Inventions of Benjamin Franklin by Gene Barretta, Equality's Call: The Story of Voting Rights in America written by Deborah Diesen and illustrated by Magdalena Mora, and Saving the Liberty Bell written by Megan McDonald and illustrated by Marsha Gray Carrington.

Chronicle Books describes What Can a Citizen Do? as "a book about what citizenship — good citizenship — means to you, and to us all: Across the course of several seemingly unrelated but ultimately connected actions by different children, we watch how kids turn a lonely island into a community — and watch a journey from what the world should be to what the world could be."

What Can a Citizen Do?, written by Dave Eggers and illustrated by Shawn Harris, is available online via Chronicle Books.

This Virtual Storytime was originally featured as part of Virtual Spring Break with the Museum, sponsored by PECO, which ran online in April 2020, featuring do-at-home crafts and activities, virtual story time, Artisans Field Trip living history interviews, and live Q&As with Museum staff.
