Museum of the American Revolution Announces Hiring of Mark Turdo as a CuratorNovember 2, 2016
Philadelphia, PA, Nov. 2, 2016— The Museum of the American Revolution today announced the hiring of curator Mark A. Turdo. Turdo brings to the Museum more than 20 years of experience in almost every aspect of modern museum work, from curatorial and programmatic to leadership and management.
Turdo previously served as curator for the Peter Wentz Farmstead in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, which became a temporary headquarters for General George Washington and his staff in the fall of 1777 during the Revolutionary War. During his tenure there, Turdo was responsible for all facets of collections management and historic preservation.
In his new role, Turdo will play a key role in research, planning, and development of temporary exhibitions and rotations in the Museum’s core exhibition galleries. He also will collaborate with the programming team to develop and deliver a wide range of on- and off-site public programs for school groups, educators, families, and scholarly audiences.
“With a wide range of experience in museum exhibits, collections, and programming, Mark was a natural choice to join our team,” said Dr. R. Scott Stephenson, Vice President of Collections, Exhibitions, and Programming. “His contributions will be invaluable as we rapidly approach our opening date on April 19, and beyond.”
Turdo’s professional experience also includes positions at Andover Historical Society, Fort Ticonderoga, and the Moravian Historical Society. He has written and presented more than 30 original public and professional presentations on a wide range of historical topics, and has authored a number of articles for scholarly publications. Turdo received a master of arts degree in museum studies from Cooperstown Graduate Program, a partnership between State University of New York Oneta and New York State Historical Association, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Moravian College.
