Travel just outside of Philadelphia to visit Valley Forge, where General George Washington and his Continental Army troops set up their 1777-78 encampment and trained during the brutal winter. Beyond the park, Valley Forge and its surrounding area are full of 18th-century historical sites that have been preserved to commemorate both the American Revolution and early American life.

Valley Forge National Historical Park
Valley Forge, the encampment site of the Continental Army, has lots to do for the entire family. Tour the encampment, participate in ranger led programs and see the reconstructed earthworks, forts, and trenches originally built by General Washington’s troops.

Paoli Battlefield
Paoli Battlefield commemorates the Battle of Paoli on Sept. 20, 1777, where 53 American soldiers were killed in a surprise attack by British troops. The Paoli Battlefield historic park commemorates the lives of our fallen soldiers through ground preservation and memorials. Don't miss Historic Waynesborough, the nearby historic house of General Anthony Wayne.

Black Powder Tavern
Black Powder Tavern was named after the black powder that is said to have been stashed there for George Washington and his army during the brutal 1777-1778 winter in Valley Forge. This restaurant salutes America by offering classic American favorites and immerses you in the 18th century in the restaurant's main building built in 1746.

Historic Trappe
With its mission to preserve and share the historic places, landscapes, and heritage of southeastern Pennsylvania, Historic Trappe is home to three Revolutionary-era sites open to visitors, including the Dewees Tavern, the Muhlenberg House, and the Speaker's House (pictured above).

Pennypacker Mills
Ahead of the Battle of Germantown in October 1777, General George Washington used Pennypacker Mills as a temporary headquarters. The mansion is now open to the public as a museum and living history site as well as the home of a collection of artifacts from its most famous resident, Governor Samuel Pennypacker.
