Museum of the American Revolution Set to Reopen Sept. 3, with Special Member Access Beginning August 20

Special Exhibition When Women Lost the Vote to Open Oct. 2

The Museum of the American Revolution is scheduled to reopen to the general public on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, with special access for Museum Members beginning Thursday, August 20. To ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience, the Museum has implemented new health and safety measures, including reduced capacity, advance online ticket purchasing, and enhanced sanitizing and cleaning protocols.

Beginning Thursday, August 20, the Museum will be open to Museum Members from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. from Thursday – Sunday. Beginning Thursday, Sept. 3, the Museum will open to the public with a revised operating schedule of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. from Thursday – Sunday, until further notice. The Museum will be open on holiday Mondays, including Labor Day, Sept. 7. Please check the Museum’s website for the most up-to-date hours and information.

Scott Stephenson, Museum President and CEO. “Our team has been working tirelessly to implement new health and safety protocols to provide a comfortable, welcoming environment while maintaining the excellence of the Museum’s visitor experience. For those who wish to remain at home and experience the Museum virtually, we will continue to share dynamic online programs and activities for all ages.” 

Advance reservations are strongly recommended for all visitors, including Members, to limit capacity and comply with social distancing requirements. Tickets are timed and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. When the Museum reopens for general visitors on Sept. 3, the Cross Keys Café is anticipated to be open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. from Thursday – Sunday. Outdoor seating will be available. The Museum’s shop will be open during the Museum’s operating hours. The Museum’s online shop is currently available and offers a wide range of books, gifts, and apparel for all ages.
 

With the health and safety of Museum visitors, staff, and the community as our highest priority, new health and safety protocols have been implemented, including:

• Staff and visitors over the age of 5 will be required to wear a mask/face covering.
• Social distancing, of at least 6 feet, between guests, individual family groups, and staff will be enforced.
• Advance reservations are strongly recommended. The number of visitors in the building will be limited, with timed ticketing to help facilitate social distancing.
• Capacity for viewing in-gallery films will be limited.
• Rigorous cleaning protocols have been implemented, with all public spaces and surfaces cleaned and disinfected throughout the day, and hand-sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the building.

Please note: The Museum’s Revolution Place discovery center and Battlefield Theater will remain closed to the public until circumstances allow them to safely reopen. Interactive touchscreen displays in the galleries will remain available with additional cleaning throughout the day and nearby sanitation stations available for guest use.

The Museum’s upcoming special exhibition When Women Lost the Vote: A Revolutionary Story, 1776-1807, originally scheduled to open in August, will now open Friday, Oct. 2. The groundbreaking exhibition will explore the little-known history of the nation’s first women voters in New Jersey following the Revolutionary War—and examine the political conflicts that led to their voting rights being stripped away in 1807. The exhibition will be integrated within the Museum’s permanent galleries and connected by an audio tour. It also will be made available to virtual visitors through a robust online experience. 

In addition to onsite visitation, the Museum will continue to offer an abundance of free digital resources for all ages, including its Virtual Museum Tour, Virtual Field Trip, a rich archive of Read the Revolution book excerpts, comprehensive lesson plans, make-at-home crafts and other activities for families, a digitized collection of the Museum's art and artifacts, and more.
