Free Admission for Kids During Labor Day Weekend, August 31-September 2
August 1, 2024Join the Museum of the American Revolution over Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, Aug. 31 – Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, for family-friendly activities, hands-on crafts, live performances, a chance to explore our special exhibit Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent, and more as another Revolutionary Summer comes to a close. Throughout the holiday weekend, children 12 and under will receive free admission when tickets are purchased at the front desk.
Labor Day Weekend Highlights:
- Witness to Revolution Special Exhibition | Daily from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Museum’s current special exhibit Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent greatly expands the story told in the Museum’s award-winning Washington's War Tent film and brings to life the stories of those who saved George Washington’s tent from being lost over time. At a 10-minute, in-gallery talk, learn about the artisans, including upholsterer Plunkett Fleeson, who made George Washington's headquarters tent and camp equipment. - “Meet Joseph Plumb Martin” Performances | Monday at 1:15 p.m. & 3:15 p.m.
Experience the Museum’s first-person theatrical performance portraying Continental Army soldier Joseph Plumb Martin, one of the thousands of teenaged soldiers in General George Washington's army, who wanted to prove he was "as warm a patriot as the best of them." This performance is appropriate for all audiences. - Revolution Place Discovery Center | Daily from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Museum’s family-friendly discovery center, Revolution Place, will be open daily to explore the Museum’s lively, diverse Old City neighborhood during the 1700s through hands-on exploration in four key recreated historical environments, including a military encampment, a tavern, a home, and an 18th-century meeting house. Throughout the holiday weekend, head down to Revolution Place to make and take home your own pop-up tent craft inspired by George Washington's sleeping marquee! - Make-Your-Own Rhode Island Regiment Cap | Daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
In the Museum’s Rotunda, design a cap craft to take home like those worn by the Black and Native American troops of the Rhode Island Regiment who marched through Philadelphia on their way to Yorktown on Sept. 2, 1781. - Discovery Cart: Artisans and Makers | Daily from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Join a Museum educator at a hands-on discovery cart with replica objects to learn more about the artisans and makers of the Revolutionary era who helped supply the Continental Army and made everyday supplies for the home front. - Unpack a Sea Chest | Daily at 2:30 p.m.
All hands on deck on the Museum’s replica sloop! Join a Museum educator for stories about what life was like at sea during the Revolutionary War for the Continental Navy, privateers, and prisoners of war, and learn about the different roles needed to operate a Revolutionary-era ships.
All Labor Day Weekend activities are included with regular Museum admission. Kids 12 and under receive free admission throughout Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, Aug. 31-Monday, Sept. 2 at the Museum’s front desk (not available when purchasing online). The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Witness to Revolution is open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is included with regular Museum admission. Tickets to the Museum can be purchased by calling 215.253.6731, at AmRevMuseum.org, or at the front desk. Save $2 per adult ticket by purchasing online. All tickets are valid for two consecutive days.
