Join the American Friends of Lafayette at museums and historical sites throughout Philadelphia from Sept. 27-29 for events and programs commemorating the Bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette’s 1824-25 farewell tour visiting Philadelphia.
At the Museum, learn about Lafayette's Continental Army service during the Revolutionary War, his relationship with General George Washington, and his later encounter with Washington's tent at Fort McHenry in 1824 in the Museum's special exhibition, Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington's Tent. In the exhibit, view original objects related to Lafayette, including a painted silk parade banner to celebrate Lafayette's return to Philadelphia and a commemorative souvenir plate bearing Lafayette's likeness.
The Bicentennial of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour events and programs, organized by the American Friends of Lafayette, follow in the footsteps of Lafayette's 13-month 1824-25 tour. Their stop in Philadelphia from Sept. 27-29, 2024, will feature events across historic Philadelphia sites and museums, including the Fête Lafayette all-day festival featuring a parade, musical performances, cultural exhibits, and history presentations on Saturday, Sept. 28, as well as an exclusive tour of the Museum of the American Revolution on Sunday, Sept. 29.
