Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington's Tent

Our current special exhibition greatly expands the story told in the Museum’s award-winning Washington's War Tent film and brings to life the stories of individuals from all walks of life who saved George Washington’s tent from being lost over the generations and who ultimately fashioned this relic into a symbol of the fragile American republic.
Revolution Place
Onsite | Daily, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Explore the Museum’s family-friendly discovery center, Revolution Place, which will transform into the winter of 1778! Walk into frost-covered windows, logs piled by the fire, and 18th-century coats and cloaks as you learn about what Philadelphia would have been like in the snowy winter months and how they celebrated the winter holidays. Don't miss your chance to craft your own version of Washington's headquarters tent to take home with you.

What are you thankful for this year? Add a note of gratitude to the “Wall of Thanks” in the Museum’s rotunda.
Discovery Cart: Tyonajanegen (Two Kettles Together)

Join a Museum educator at a discovery cart featuring replica artifacts and documents to learn about Tyonajanegen (Two Kettles Together), an Oneida woman who participated in the violent Battle of Oriskany during the Saratoga Campaign.
Oneida Nation Gallery

In the Museum’s core exhibition, visitors can explore an immersive multimedia gallery about the Oneida Indian Nation’s debate over whether or not to break away from the Six Nations Confederacy to support the Revolutionary cause. Listen as recreated figures representing Oneida men and women discuss the difficult choices they faced.
First-Person Theatrical Performances: Meet Elizabeth Freeman & Joseph Meet Plumb Martin
Onsite (Alan B. Miller Theater) | Daily, 1:15 & 3:15 p.m.
Freeman on Friday & Sunday | Martin on Saturday
Watch a 30-minute first-person theatrical performance on Friday and Sunday portraying the life and experiences of Elizabeth Freeman, also known as Mumbet, a Massachusetts woman who sued for her freedom from enslavement and won. The performance stars Katelyn E. Appiah-Kubi as Elizabeth Freeman and was written by Teresa Miller. On Saturday, experience the Museum’s first-person theatrical performance portraying Continental Army soldier Joseph Plumb Martin, performed by Christopher Roché and written by Ryan Schwartz. Martin was one of the thousands of teenaged soldiers in General George Washington's army.

All hands on deck on the Museum’s replica sloop! Join a Museum educator to unpack a replica sea chest to learn what privateer ships and the Continental Navy carried aboard and to hear stories about what life was like at sea during the Revolutionary War.
