Inspired by the national treasures on view in Witness to Revolution: The Unlikely Travels of Washington’s Tent and the 2004 movie “National Treasure,” the Museum will present an after-hours event on Friday, Nov. 22, with special exhibit access, a featured talk, and activities themed around the upcoming 250th anniversary of when the Declaration of Independence was signed (but not stolen!) in Philadelphia.

This night at the Museum will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with a “National Treasure” themed cocktail reception, access to Witness to Revolution, activities inspired by the surprising facts behind the film’s fictional heist, and a chance to meet Dr. Aubrey R. Paris and Dr. Emily M. Black, hosts of the National Treasure Hunt podcast and authors of National Treasure Hunt: One Step Short of Crazy.

At 6:15 p.m., in the Museum’s Lenfest Myer Theater, guests are invited to an exclusive presentation by Special Agent Jake Archer, FBI Art Crime Team, to hear about the true measures needed to protect treasures in museums today. Citing recent cases, Archer will share how the FBI Art Crime Team consults with cultural heritage and research institutions across the country, including the Museum. Museum President and CEO Dr. R. Scott Stephenson will interview Archer and dive into the details about the ongoing investigation into Revolutionary artifacts stolen more than 50 years ago from the Valley Forge Historical Society, which transferred its collection to the Museum in 2003. Stephenson will preview the Museum’s plans for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which include a special exhibition that will interpret the American Declaration as a founding document that continues to inspire independence movements around the world. This special program will not be recorded.

The evening will conclude with an invitation to view the “Washington’s War Tent” film and presentation in the Alan B. Miller Theater at 7:30 p.m., with access to the special exhibit and Museum Shop until 8 p.m.

Listen to the season nine finale of the National Treasure Hunt podcast as the Museum's Tyler Putman joins co-hosts Aubrey Paris and Emily Black ahead of the Nov. 22 event.
