The Museum of the American Revolution today announced the hiring of Allegra Burnette as its first Chief Strategy and Growth Officer. Burnette brings over 30 years of career experience with museums, experience design, and technology.

Most recently, Burnette served as Principal of her own consultancy Allegra Burnette & Associates LLC, where she developed strategies for museums and cultural organizations, including the Museum of the American Revolution, to improve experiences for visitors, stakeholders, and staff and increase engagement with audiences. She previously served as Principal Analyst, Customer Experience at Forrester Research, where she published research and consulted on customer experience strategy and design. Additionally, Burnette led digital media at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City, where she oversaw the strategy and implementation of MoMA’s public-facing digital initiatives, including websites, social media, mobile apps, and digital displays.

In her new role at the Museum, which replaces the role of Chief Operating Officer, Burnette will work to expand the Museum’s reach and impact by identifying, developing, and implementing strategic growth initiatives. She will oversee the Museum’s branding, marketing, communications, digital, and visitor service activities and help the institution harness opportunities surrounding the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026 and the Museum’s 10th anniversary of its opening in 2027.

“We are thrilled to add Allegra to the Museum’s leadership team,” said Dr. R. Scott Stephenson, President and CEO of the Museum. “We have been so impressed by her work as a digital strategy consultant over the past several years and could think of no better candidate to help us continue to expand our onsite visitation and our online audience. Allegra is already a great champion and steward of our mission and will make an exceptional leader for our organization as we look forward to the important milestones to come.”

“I am excited to join the Museum of the American Revolution full-time in this newly created role,” said Burnette. “My time as a consultant for the Museum has deepened my appreciation for its mission, values, and the exceptional leadership and dedicated team driving it forward. I am honored to contribute to the continued success of the Museum.”

Burnette holds a master of fine arts degree in museum exhibit planning and design from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She received her bachelor’s degree in art history from Dartmouth College.

She began her museum career in 1991 at Ralph Appelbaum Associates where she filled a variety of creative roles, working for clients such as the United States Holocaust Museum, the American Museum of Natural History, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, and the Yorktown Victory Center.

Burnette has taught in the online museum studies graduate program at Johns Hopkins University and served as a mentor and president of the board for the Museum Computer Network (MCN), as well as sat on numerous award juries and acted as a grant peer reviewer. She is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute in New York City, where she has taught graduate classes in museum digital strategy and audience research and evaluation.
