Kids Get in Free During Labor Day Weekend

Celebrate National Dog Day with Special Programs about 18th-Century Canine Culture

Clean out those summer cobwebs and get your brain back in gear at the Museum of the American Revolution this Labor Day Weekend, Saturday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 2. Kids 12 and under will receive FREE admission to the Museum throughout the weekend. 

Every child also will receive a free back-to-school packet, including a pencil with sharpener, an activity sheet, and a pocket-sized Declaration of Independence. Museum hours are 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Monday. Tickets are available online here, by calling 215.253.6731, or at the front desk.

On Saturday, August 31 from 2 – 3 p.m., join young adult author Trinka Hakes Noble, author of The Scarlet Stockings Spy: A Revolutionary War Tale, for an afternoon talk and book signing. In this suspenseful story, learn about Philadelphia in the fall of 1777, on the brink of the British occupation and the measures a young girl, Maddy Rose, took to make a difference. Through Noble’s talk, discover how even the smallest of citizens can play a part in the American Revolution. The talk is included with regular Museum admission. A book signing will follow.

From 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. throughout the weekend, celebrate National Dog Day and learn about canine culture in 18th-century America. Discover memorable mutts, such as a British bulldog who chased after cannonballs at the Siege of Yorktown or General Charles Lee’s dogs who followed him to the battlefield. Search for lost dogs in the galleries and make a historically-inspired dog-themed button to take home.

On Saturday, August 31 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., enjoy special activities with your pup on the Museum’s outdoor plaza, featuring local organizations including PAWS, ACCT Philly, Philly Pups for Independence, and Delco Dawgs. Then, pose for your own pet portrait to take home.

In the Museum’s Revolution Place discovery center, explore 18th-century Philadelphia through immersive environments, interactive touchscreens, reproduction objects, and special programs from Noon – 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and Noon – 4 p.m. on Monday.

In the Museum’s exhibits, explore the exciting story of the American Revolution through original artifacts, dynamic theater experiences, recreated historical moments, and immersive environments, including a nearly two-story replica of America’s first Liberty Tree, and a privateer ship that visitors can board to learn about the war at sea.
