Experts from Museum of the American Revolution Available to Comment on July 4 Stories

Philadelphia, PA (June 24, 2016) – As the July 4 holiday approaches, experts from the forthcoming Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia are available to assist the news media with stories about America’s founding. When it opens to the public on April 19, 2017, the Museum will explore the remarkable story of the American Revolution from its origins to ultimate victory and its continuing relevance.

Museum experts include:

• Dr. R. Scott Stephenson, Vice President of Collections, Exhibitions and Programming for the Museum of the American Revolution, holds an MA and PhD in American History from the University of Virginia. His broad public history experience includes work as a curator, historical interpreter, program developer, scriptwriter, and historical and visual consultant. A specialist in colonial and revolutionary American history and material culture, he has developed and collaborated on exhibits, films, interpretive and educational programs for numerous historical sites and organizations, including Colonial Williamsburg, the Smithsonian, the National Park Service, Fort Ticonderoga, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and the National Constitution Center.
   
• Dr. Philip Mead, Historian and Curator at the Museum of the American Revolution, is a specialist in the era of the American Revolution, and has served as historian for exhibition development at the Museum since 2011. He has been a full-time historian and curator at the Museum since 2014. Mead received his PhD in American history from Harvard University in 2012, having completed his dissertation titled “’Melancholy Landscapes:’ Writing Warfare in the American Revolution.” From 2012-2014 he was a lecturer in the history department at Harvard University.
