Each spring during the Revolutionary War, the armies shook the rust off and resupplied. During Spring Break from April 13 – April 28, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., visitors can participate in family-friendly activities and demonstrations that explore what life was like for the Continental Army and its followers.

On weekdays from April 13 – 28 from 2 - 4 p.m. the Museum’s Gallery Educators will demonstrate a variety of Revolutionary-era activities ranging from shoemaking, cartridge rolling, flag-making and more in the Museum’s first-floor rotunda.

On Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14, the Museum will host costumed living historians portraying the “artificers” who served under Philadelphian Benjamin Flower (whose portrait is on display at the Museum) as they repair old equipment and make new goods for the Continental Army. Visitors will learn how shoemakers and hatmakers produced enough footwear and headgear for an army, watch as carpenters prepare blocks for soldiers’ cartridge boxes, help sew Continental Army uniforms, and meet an interpreter portraying Rebecca Flower Young, Benjamin Flower’s sister, who made flags and drum cases as a contract seamstress.

On Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21, the Museum will commemorate the 244th Anniversary of the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” that ignited the Revolutionary War. Throughout the weekend, ten-minute talks will highlight remarkable witness objects from the battles at Lexington and Concord, and the civilians, British soldiers, and minutemen who were there. In the Museum’s lobby, visitors can create their own April 19 commemorative ribbon to take home, based on silk ribbons given to Revolutionary War veterans.

In the Museum’s discovery center, Revolution Place, the whole family can explore 18th-century Philadelphia through immersive environments, interactive touchscreens, reproduction objects, and special programs from Noon - 4 p.m. daily from April 13 – 28.

Spring Break programs are included with regular Museum admission. Tickets can be purchased at www.amrevmuseum.org or by calling 215.253.6731 (children 5 and under are free). The Museum is open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily.
