Enjoy a “Revolutionary Staycation” and Discover Regional Sites Where History Was Made, Aug. 20

Part of the Museum’s History After Hours Series

Grab a cocktail and kick back for a Revolutionary Staycation right here at home – no passport or airfare necessary! Representatives from historic sites and landmarks from across Philadelphia and its surrounding countryside will gather at the Museum of the American Revolution to highlight stories told at their location with activities, replica objects, and takeaways. Each guest will get a free tote bag to collect information and giveaways from participating sites. The event will take place on Tuesday, August 20, from 5 – 8 p.m. 

Revolutionary Staycation is part of the Museum’s series of monthly History After Hours events which feature extended evening hours, special themed programs, happy hour food and drink specials in Cross Keys Café, and full access to the Museum’s exhibits. Tickets for History After Hours are $10 and can be purchased online in advance here or at the door.

From 5 – 7:30 p.m. in the Cross Keys Café, enjoy a Staycation Sangria and slider specials and join local actress and singer Donnie Hammond for a Hamiltunes karaoke featuring songs from the Broadway smash hit musical “Hamilton.”

At 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., meet Joseph Plumb Martin, a young Continental Army veteran, as he concludes his war service, in a 30-minute performance by a historical interpreter in Washington’s War Tent theater.

Regional sites that will be participating in the event include the African American Museum of Philadelphia, Brandywine Battlefield Park, Carpenter’s Hall, Chadds Ford Historical Society, Christ Church, City Tavern Restaurant, Cliveden, Historic Philadelphia Inc., Independence Seaport Museum, Independence Visitor Center, Indian King Tavern, Old Barracks Museum, Paoli Battlefield, and Washington Crossing Historic Park. 

In 2017, the Museum launched www.AmRevHQ.org, a website highlights the numerous local and regional Revolutionary sites, including battlefields, burial grounds, historic houses, and more. The website serves as an easy-to-use web tool that helps visitors discover the many historic sites and heritage attractions in and around Philadelphia. The site includes itineraries, family-friendly events, and opportunities for user engagement. A map in the Museum’s lobby and a printed brochure also highlight Revolutionary sites in the Museum’s neighborhood.

Looking ahead, History After Hours will include The Lion and the Unicorn on September 17 and All the Gory Details on October 29.
