Discover Revolutionary-Era Signs and Symbols at “Lion and Unicorn” After-Hours Event, Sept. 17

Try Your Hand at Revolutionary War Beer Pong and Enjoy Samples from Local Breweries

Discover signs and symbols of the Revolutionary-era at a Lion and Unicorn-themed after-hours event at the Museum of the American Revolution on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 from 5 – 8 p.m. The evening will include beer pong battles, samples from local breweries, and special gallery tours. 

The Lion and the Unicorn is part of the Museum’s series of monthly History After Hours events which feature extended evening hours, special themed programs, happy hour food and drink specials in Cross Keys Café, and full access to the Museum’s exhibits. Tickets for History After Hours are $10 and can be purchased online in advance here or at the door.

During special gallery tours at 6:15 and 7:15 p.m., learn about the types of symbols – like the lion and the unicorn – that were used on everyday objects like tavern signs and ceramics leading up to the Revolutionary War.

In the Museum’s Cross Keys Café from 5 – 7:30 p.m., sample The Patriot, a double IPA, and a Battle of Brandywine Belgian dark strong ale from Artillery Brewing and a Bloodhound Brown Ale from the soon-to-open Attic Brewing Company. Happy hour specials will include a “Poldark and Stormy” cocktail and British-inspired fare.

Throughout the evening in the Museum's rotunda, challenge your friends to a game of beer pong and recreate key battles from the Revolutionary War on the pong table. Your moves will be announced by a British Light Infantry soldier.

Fans of Poldark will be able to meet representatives from WHYY, who will be on site to talk about the new and final season of the British historical drama, which premieres September 29. Answer Poldark trivia for a chance to win a spin of the prize wheel.

In the coming months, History After Hours will continue with All the Gory Details on October 29, and Comic Relief on November 19.
