Dedication and Plaza Opening

We invite you to join us on Thursday, September 15 from 9:45am to 10:30am as we gather with neighbors and friends to dedicate our Museum building to Board Chairman Gerry Lenfest and his wife Marguerite.

This event will also mark the official opening of our outdoor plaza to the public. Designed by Philadelphia's OLIN landscape architects, the plaza is paved in native Pennsylvania bluestone and brick that was reclaimed from the Visitor's Center which previously stood on the site.

The plaza features:

• Generous seating shaded by specially selected Princeton elm trees. One of the trees, designated as "America's Liberty Tree," is enriched with soil from Revolutionary sites and national parks from around the country.
• A dramatic display of five cannons from the Revolutionary era, on loan from the Girard Estate in Philadelphia. Conservation was made possible thanks to a grant from the Board of Directors of City Trusts. The William B. Dietrich Foundation provided additional funding to conserve the cannons as well as to support the seating areas on the plaza.
• Powerful words from the Declaration of Independence emblazoned in Alabama limestone on one of the plaza's flanking walls. This impressive display was made possible with generous funding from Martha McGeary Snider.
