Join The Atlantic Across America tour in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 11, in partnership with the Museum of the American Revolution and The Lenfest Institute for Journalism for an evening of reflection on the enduring and evolving American idea.
As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, what does the Constitution mean today and what might it mean for the generations ahead? The program will feature a conversation with elected officials including Representative Madeleine Dean on the state of Pennsylvania—examining the issues, ideas, and communities shaping the commonwealth at this pivotal moment, and the role Pennsylvania continues to play in the life of the nation.
Then, in a wide-ranging assessment of the promises, paradoxes, and possibilities of America’s founding documents, Atlantic staff writer Clint Smith, Atlantic contributing writer Jeffrey Rosen, CEO emeritus of the National Constitution Center, and Melissa Murray, Professor, Constitutional Law, New York University, and Co-Host, Strict Scrutiny, will sit down with The Atlantic’s managing director, Evan Smith, to explore how the country’s defining ideals have been contested and reimagined across generations—and how to carry that legacy forward. More speakers to be announced soon.
