Seeing the Other Side Virtual Professional Development Workshop

Many students today encounter a story of the American Revolution that omits the perspective of the British and of the Loyalists who supported them. Yet, it’s through an understanding of other viewpoints that allows us to see the humanity and complex decisions people in the 18th century had to make to truly understand what was at stake.

In this free professional development workshop, educators will be introduced to sources representing diverse perspectives of the Revolution, from King George III and Parliament to merchants and common soldiers. It will provide participants with suggestions for including these voices in their classrooms and for using tools to practice historical thinking that can apply to contemporary conversations about divisive issues today.
