Explore the Declaration

On July 4, 2026, the Declaration of Independence will celebrate 250 years! But what exactly is this special document that we honor each year on its birthday? Come along with a museum educator to discover what the Declaration is, why it was created, and why the important ideas inside it mattered in 1776—and still do today—through engaging, hands-on activities.  

Under the Museum

Go behind the scenes with Museum staff to discover cool artifacts from the past and hear the exciting stories they can tell. In this workshop, we will learn about archaeology and the thousands of objects we discovered under the museum—in an 18th-century toilet! Find out what these objects reveal about the people who once lived in our revolutionary neighborhood.  

Spies of the Revolution
June 26 | 11 a.m.
In this super-secret meeting, join Museum staff as we learn about the spies of the Revolution! From shopkeepers and mystery women to enslaved men who served as double agents, let’s discover who these spies were and how they operated undercover. We’ll solve some of our puzzles, uncover some secret messages, and discover why George Washington thought spies were essential to the Continental Army’s victory.
