History Explorer Meet-Up: 2023 Occupied Philadelphia

A British costumed living history interpreter shows a young boy how to drum on the Museum's plaza during Occupied Philadelphia.

In this family-friendly, activity-filled walking tour, we’ll explore occupied Philadelphia, meet British soldiers and everyday residents, and get a hands-on glimpse into life under British authority. Why did the British want to take over Philadelphia? How did Philadelphians feel about it? And where did General Washington go? Join Family Programs Manager Rebecca Franco as we work together to answer these questions and hunt through soldiers and civilians to gather the latest information to pass on to the spymaster — if we can find them!

Please note: At least one adult must accompany up to three children. This family-friendly walking tour is best enjoyed by children between ages 7-11.

Occupied Philadelphia is the Museum’s annual flagship living history event, which recreates the dark days of the British occupation of 1777-1778. Join us from Oct. 28-29, 2023, on the Museum plaza and Carpenters' Hall in Old City throughout the weekend.
