History After Hours: Love Letters

February 20, 2018 - 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Museum of the American Revolution

$10 for non-members | Free for Members

Revolutionaries wrote love letters, went on dates, and even carved “busks” for their sweethearts to wear close to their hearts.  Join us for a love-themed History After Hours with live music and food and drink specials.

Try your hand at writing a Revolutionary-era letter with a quill pen and ink, and learn more about secret messages and jokes used in “rebus puzzles” – the 18th-century equivalent of emoji. Make a bookmark inspired by the wooden busk (piece of a woman’s corset) that was intricately carved with Revolutionary imagery and the phrase “We Are One” by an American prisoner-of-war for his sweetheart, which is on display in the Museum’s exhibits. Learn the classic English card game whist, try on Revolutionary-era inspired clothing, and pose for photos with a costumed historical interpreter.

Happy Hour in the Cross Keys cafe will feature drink specials for both "Singles and Doubles," plus a special tasting with Yard Brewery featuring Love Stout

The History After Hours Series and discount admission sponsored by PECO.
