First Oval Office Project at Revolutionary Germantown FestivalOctober 1, 2022 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Join the Museum at Cliveden on Oct. 1 for the Revolutionary Germantown Festival where we will set up our First Oval Office Project, a recreated Revolutionary War encampment, including handsewn, full-scale replicas of General George Washington's sleeping marquee, dining tent, baggage tent, and common tents that served as his mobile headquarters while on campaign. Navigate the encampment, explore the tents, and meet costumed living history interpreters portraying the people who would have been there. Washington's original sleeping and office tent from the Revolutionary War is on permanent display at the Museum of the American Revolution in historic Philadelphia.
The 2022 Revolutionary Germantown Festival will continue its 40-plus year tradition of being a free event commemorating Germantown's Revolutionary history. Visitors will be able to engage with the sites in Historic Germantown through family-friendly activities that highlight the diverse experiences of the men, women, and children who lived in 1777 Germantown. Historic Germantown is a partnership of 18 extraordinary historic houses, destinations, and museums in Northwest Philadelphia that have joined together to protect, preserve, and share some of Philadelphia’s prized historical assets.
