Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with The Jeremy Winston Chorale International, returning to the Museum of the American Revolution to present an evening concert inspired by our current special exhibition, The Declaration’s Journey, presented by Griffin Catalyst. The concert will showcase 250 years of leadership and music in civil rights movements throughout American history – including Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy – with storytelling, instrumental accompaniment, and choral arrangements by composer and artistic director Dr. Jeremy Winston. Featuring more than 20 Chorale members and narrated by Museum staff and special guests, the concert will include music familiar to the lifetimes and legacies of Lemuel Haynes, Richard Allen, Elizabeth Freeman, James Forten, and precedents to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s March on Washington, D.C. in 1963, that featured composers and musicians including Mahalia Jackson and Marian Anderson. The Chorale will also perform “Man of Colour” by Dr. Jeremy Winston, inspired by James Forten’s famous letter of the same name that is now on view in The Declaration’s Journey, and which was commissioned by the Museum and premiered in 2023 during Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia.

All tickets will include 5:30 p.m. access to The Declaration's Journey and a reception prior to the 90-min. concert at 6:30 p.m, which will begin with an a cappella performance on the grand staircase in the Robert A. M. Stern Rotunda prior to the choral concert (without intermission) in Liberty Hall, accompanied by brass and keyboard instrumentals.
