A Disabled Soldier's Pension

This document awarded Private John Williams of the 10th Pennsylvania Regiment a pension of $3 per month due to an injury he suffered during his service in the Revolutionary War. Williams was permanently disabled in the shoulder during a 1777 battle in New Jersey. Because of his injury, Williams transferred to the Continental Army's Invalid Regiment, a unit composed of older and disabled soldiers able to perform guard duties but otherwise unfit for active service.
