Encampment

Companies of Massachusetts or Connecticut troops are visible here marching in front of their tents. Deborah Sampson, a woman who disguised herself as a man and served in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment, may be among them. By 1782, observers noted the good discipline and crisp movements of the Continental Army’s veteran soldiers.
