Army Headquarters

This complex of tents and wooden porticos served as sleeping quarters for Washington’s assistants and as a place for officer meetings and entertainment. When the French Army arrived on September 17, Washington had wine and food served for the officers. Jean-Baptiste-Antoine de Verger, a French lieutenant, remembered that Washington “offered us some refreshments in his tent.”
