Tadeusz Kosciuszko

Polish engineer Tadeuz Kosciuszko, shown in this portrait by Jozef Grassi, joined the Continental Army in 1776. He helped improve and expand the fortifications at West Point, including the hilltop stronghold named Fort Putnam, in 1778.
