Timothy Tallow and His Wife Going to Graves Hall on a Sunday

This cartoon seems to mock the pretensions, hopes, and dreams of the British gentry. St. George drew the satirical, unattractive characters Timothy Tallow and his wife being pulled by a tired horse on a road five miles outside of London (the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral is visible in the distance). Mrs. Tallow is pointing towards a country house with a signpost in the front yard declaring “man traps here.” St. George probably included this sign to lampoon relationships between men and women.
