The Eclipse Macarony

Richard Mansergh St. George created this cartoon to satirize Dennis O’Kelly, an Irish racehorse owner and notorious gambler. O’Kelly lived in England and built his wealth as a conman and brothel keeper. He owned the most successful thoroughbred of the 1700s, a chestnut horse named Eclipse. An estimated 95% of all modern thoroughbreds are descended from Eclipse.
