The Coterie & Newmarket Macaroni

As a college student at Cambridge University, Richard St. George lived close to the horse racing center of Newmarket, England, referenced in the title of this cartoon. The gentleman rider shown here is not wearing the gaudy clothing of a typical “macaroni.” Instead his dress is more refined. The message that St. George tried to convey with this cartoon is unclear.
