Martin Hunter’s Memoir

Martin Hunter wrote this memoir featuring descriptions of his service with the British Army in America. His descendants published it in 1894. Hunter distinctly remembered serving alongside Richard Mansergh St. George. In one entry, Hunter wrote, “I often thought that St. George wished to be wounded, as he frequently said, ‘Tis very extraordinary that I don't get a clink [i.e. a wound], for I am certain I go as much in the way of it as anybody.’” Just a few weeks later, Richard Mansergh St. George received a devastating head wound at the Battle of Germantown.
