Fuseli’s The Apotheosis of Penelope Boothby

St. George’s friend Sir Brooke Boothby could empathize with his tragedy. In 1791, Boothby’s beloved daughter Penelope died at the age of five. Boothby commissioned Henry Fuseli to create this painting of her “apotheosis,” or ascension into heaven.
