Declaration of Irish Independence

Declaration of Irish Independence

In 1919, Ireland issued its own declaration of independence during its renewed effort to separate from the British Empire. The Declaration of Irish Independence considered any British troops in Ireland to be an invasion force and proclaimed that the new Irish government would provide “equal right and equal opportunity for every citizen.” The current Republic of Ireland considers 1919 to be its year of independence.
