View of Verplanck’s Point from the Hudson River

Artist Charles Willson Peale, a Revolutionary War veteran, painted this view of Verplanck’s Point from the water of the Hudson River in 1801. The Continental Army’s flotilla from West Point to Verplanck’s Point in 1782 sailed south down the Hudson River. Peale’s view was painted while sailing north.
