“USA” Hanger

In September 1780, after the Marquis de Lafayette was made commander of the American light infantry, he gave his sergeants these French-made swords marked with a script “USA” engraved on the hilt. The light infantry was in the Hudson Highlands in the fall of 1782. The detail shows the “USA” engraving (detail view is rotated).
