Society of the Cincinnati Diploma

L’Enfant designed a “diploma” for members of the Society of the Cincinnati. It included classical iconography from the ancient Roman Republic. This diploma belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Maxwell, who served in the 8th Massachusetts Regiment in 1782.
