Inscription on the Verplanck’s Point Watercolor

An ink inscription in L’Enfant’s hand on the back of the Verplanck’s Point watercolor reads “verplanck point camp.” Note the unusual way that L’Enfant writes the letter “K.” L’Enfant capitalizes the letter and includes a distinctive curve at the top. This technique matches other examples of L’Enfant’s writings.
