Eagle Insignia of the Society of the Cincinnati
This Society of the Cincinnati Eagle was among the first that Pierre L’Enfant, who designed and commissioned them, brought to America. They were distributed to members at the Society’s first general meeting in May 1784 at the City Tavern in Philadelphia. This Eagle is thought to have belonged to Major General Baron von Steuben, Inspector General of the Continental Army.
