Lecture Marks Third Annual Event in Series Honoring the Museum’s Late Board Member Carl M. Buchholz

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University, will join the Museum of the American Revolution virtually on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at 6 p.m. to examine how we can wrestle with—and have honest dialogue about—the complexities in our nation’s history.

The Museum of the American Revolution today announced two newly expanded roles within the organization in support of the Museum’s strategic commitment to education, engagement, and commemorating the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding in 2026.

The Museum of the American Revolution’s groundbreaking new exhibition When Women Lost the Vote: A Revolutionary Story, 1776 – 1807 will open to the public on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 and run through Sunday, April 25, 2021. The exhibition also will be made accessible to virtual visitors from around the world through a robust, free online experience.

On the heels of the successful campaign to retire the former name and mascot of the NFL’s Washington Football Team, Ray Halbritter joined the Museum of the American Revolution for a virtual conversation about his role in leading the “Change the Mascot” movement. The conversation also explored the history of the Oneida Indian Nation, the difference between celebration and commemoration, and the importance of a diverse, nuanced telling of our nation’s history.

The Museum of the American Revolution is scheduled to reopen to the general public on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, with special access for Museum Members beginning Thursday, August 20. To ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience, the Museum has implemented new health and safety measures, including reduced capacity, advance online ticket purchasing, and enhanced sanitizing and cleaning protocols.

During Winter Break, visitors to the Museum of the American Revolution can read stories of those who experienced Washington's strategy against the British.
