Acquiring the Tent
One of the greatest treasures in the Museum’s collection is George Washington’s Headquarters Tent. It was Washington’s sleeping and office quarters through most of the Revolutionary War — where he planned military campaigns, met with allies, and wrote his correspondence. Decisions that changed the course of history were made beneath its linen walls.

Historic Forten Family Bible Donated to Museum of the American Revolution by Descendants of James Forten
An historic Bible, connected to one of the most significant African American families in Philadelphia’s history, has been donated to the Museum of the American Revolution by Atwood “Kip” Forten Jacobs and his daughter Taylor Jacqueline Rodriguez Jacobs, direct descendants of Black Revolutionary War veteran and abolitionist James Forten. The Bible is currently on display – for the first time in public – in the Museum’s special exhibition Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphia.

Free Admission for Veterans, Military, and Blue Star Families During Veterans Day Weekend, Nov. 10 – 12
This Veterans Day Weekend, Friday, Nov. 10 – Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, the Museum of the American Revolution will pay tribute to America’s first veterans as well as those who continue to serve our nation today. Visitors of all ages can enjoy walking tours, performances, and other family-friendly activities. From Nov. 10-12, the Museum will offer free admission to veterans, those currently serving in the military, and Blue Star Families, courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal.
