Part of the Museum’s New History Explorers Club Series for Kids

How would you transport 59 cannons over snow-covered mountains during the winter of 1775? The Museum of the American Revolution’s next History Explorers Club on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020 from 3:30 pm – 4:30 p.m. will put kids’ detective skills to the test as they uncover the exciting, little-known story of this risky wintertime venture.

In December of 1775, Continental Army officer Henry Knox traveled to Fort Ticonderoga in New York to bring 59 cannons back to Boston, using only a limited number of tools, oxen, and men. Join the Museum’s Manager of School Programs Michael Hensinger as he recounts Knox’s journey through blizzard, across frozen lakes, and over mountains covered in snow and ice.

During this live virtual playdate, kids will explore a diorama depicting Knox’s snowy journey and look at replica objects—including simple machines like levers, pulleys and wheels—to discover how Knox managed to move all 59 cannons in the middle of winter to help free the city of Boston.

History Explorers Club is best enjoyed by ages 7-11 but is fun for all kids. Registration is $4 for Museum Members and $7 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased here.

Looking ahead, join us online for unexpected stories and virtual experiences for the whole family during A Revolutionary Virtual Winter Break. Cozy up for craft activities, wintery storytimes, a colonial cocktail demo, and more from Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020 Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. For more digital activities for all ages, check out our Kids and Families page.
