The Museum of the American Revolution's newest special exhibition, Black Founders: The Forten Family of Philadelphiaruns from Feb. 11, 2023 through Nov. 26, 2023 and uncovers the story of James Forten and his descendants as they navigated the Revolution and cross-racial relationships in Philadelphia, and later became leaders in the abolition movement prior to the Civil War. The journey of this family of American Revolutionaries can teach us about the history of the American experiment of liberty, equality, and self-government and how we can further improve it for future generations.

To support this groundbreaking undertaking, we have launched a Black Founders Exhibition Committee charged with helping to secure essential funds for the exhibition and related programming and resources. Committee members also serve as advocates and ambassadors for the Museum, helping us to engage new audiences and donors through this initiative.

For a limited time, you are invited to join the Black Founders Exhibition Committee in one of the following ways:

  • Join the Revolution Society with a first time annual gift of $1,000 or more. Learn more about the benefits of Revolution Society.
  • Upgrade your current Revolution Society membership to the next level with a gift of $2,500 or more. Contact Bridget Hovell at [email protected] to learn more.
  • Pledge your organization’s sponsorship of $10,000 or more in support of the Black Founders exhibition. Contact Adam Robinson at 267.579.3392 or [email protected] to learn how a sponsorship can also offer your organization visibility and engagement throughout the exhibition’s run, special discounts on Museum rentals, and much more.
